Yale Showcase Day 4 Report

By Benny Lin
26 Jun 2010

I would say most of our players did well in the last day of the showcase, especially for the raising seniors. They got the attention they deserved. I feel those coaches who came to recruit knew exactly what kind of players they wanted to recruit. Being one of the best players in the showcase, Lok Sze easily got the most attention and recruitments (“golden ticket”) from coaches. She will be going home in a very good shape being recruited bu U of Chicago, Wellesley, Brown, Amherst and a few other schools. Although Lok Sze did not win her singles match on the last day, she played a great match against Seattle’s No. 2 player who is also in the Top 100 in the US. The match was very close and could have gone either way.

SJ also did well and she got the attention of NYU coach, Amherst, Wellesley, Carnegie Mellon, Vassar to name a few. Shirlene who came to the showcase with a lower expectation of university choices now will go home improving her SAT and will be applying to some of the top schools like Wellesley and Carnegie Mellon. Before all these top schools were never in her mind. She however needs to improve her ACT or SAT test results.

Tyler played very well on the last day. Coach from Carnegie Mellon, Bowdoin, NYU and Amherst came to watch him play as well as U of Chicago coach. These coaches are quite interested in Tyler, therefore Tyler and I will be in touch with the coaches for his application to those schools.

After the showcase we drove almost for 2.5 hours to Amherst College (ranked #1 or #2 for Liberal Arts college in the US). There is almost no words of how beautiful the campus is. Coach Jackie took us around for campus tour and even invited us for dinner at their dinning hall. The food was great and the kids ate all the could take from the buffet :-)

We took some pictures at Amherst College and the kids really enjoyed the tour and the scenery of Amherst. Amherst is also a small town and to drive pass the town was just a breathtaking experience as you can see those colonial style houses and architecture.

From Amherst we drove another 2.5 hours to Providence where Brown University is as we have an early appointment with coach Paul from Brown. Pictures have been uploaded at website Gallery.
