Yale Showcase Day 1 Report

22 Jun 2010

Today we visited Wellesley College. We met coach Brian whom we have known for years. Coach Brian came to the court and watched our team practice. Our team practiced for almost 2 hours - under a very pleasant weather condition. I let the kids play mostly points and gave them some pointers on how to play during the showcase. Coach Brian was impressed with the level of play of our girls and planning to recruit some of them.

After our morning practice we had lunch at Wellesley College canteen. Although the food was quite simple but we all thought it was delicious. Thank you to Helena - John's mother - for a wonderful lunch.

After our lunch we went for campus tour with coach Brian. I must say Wellesley College is one of the nicest schools I have ever been to.

In the afternoon we visited Tufts University. One of the oldest institutions in the US. We met with coach Kate who told us a lot of information about Tufts and Division 1, 2 and 3 tennis. Coach Kate played for Harvard and coached at Yale, Dartmouth and Wellesley. With her vast experience as a player and a coach, her information was extremely useful. We also met coach Doug briefly (Men's coach).

After our meeting, I took the kids for their afternoon practice at Tufts courts. They were very, very tired and jetlag but I told them they have to play to get rid of the jetlag. The second day is always the toughest day. The kids played for about 90 minutes.

Today we are heading to Harvard University for some practice and drive down to Yale University to practice at the showcase venue. We will also be meeting coach Danielle from Yale in the afternoon.
