Yale Showcase Day 9 Report

By Benny Lin
02 Jul 2010

This morning we met with both Men’s and Women’s coach of Princeton University. Being one of the top three universities in the US, Princeton is not only well known for its superb education but its campus is one of the nicest ones we saw so far. Princeton coaching team is no doubt arguably one of the best in the US as former world’s No. 1 doubles player, Glenn Michibata, and former high ranked Division 1 college player, Megan Bradley, are their current head coaches. I have no doubt if I sent a player to Princeton he/ she will receive a very high quality of coaching and surely will come out of Princeton as a better player.

Coach Megan was very kind to speak to our players about admission requirement to Princeton and what to expect from Princeton tennis program. Coach Megan told us that her team does not train for long each day but she focuses and emphasizes on quality and intensity of the training. A system that has paid off well as Princeton is currently one of the top teams in the Ivy League conference.

Coach Megan has also agreed to take a look Lok Sze and Sojung’s transcripts and SAT score to see if they are a good fit for Princeton. Another good news is coach Michibata has asked to see Tyler’s tennis video as he thinks Tyler’s grades are right up there comparable to players in his team. Tyler and I will be working on a short video to show coach Michibata Tyler’s tennis skills and abilities. Today’s meeting has been very encouraging as our team got a lot of information and a possible recruit by both head coaches.

I am very satisfied with this year’s tour. It’s been very, very fruitful and we got what we came here for. All our raising seniors will be going home knowing which schools to apply and which schools have committed to help their application. Most of the schools that are recruiting our players are very respectable and reputable schools, we could not be happier than this.

Last year we had 4 raising seniors and all of them have been accepted to the following schools:
Ryan Ho – University of Chicago
Low Kenji – Cornell University
Sher Pui Wing – Seton Hall University (full scholarship)
Lorraine Cheung – California State University Northridge (partial scholarship)

We hope last year’s seniors all the best. I am sure they will be having a great time at their respective schools when they start their first term this coming September. As for Tyler, Lok Sze, Sojung and Shirlene, the next 6 months it’s going to be a busy time as they have to send in their applications to schools of their choices and wait for the result in either December or March. John and Yaso have now know what to expect of themselves and they now will go home with a better and clear idea of what they need to work on for the next 12 months. I am sure John and Yaso will be working hard to improve their grades and tennis and the best thing is after this trip the motivation and determination will come from themselves.

See you all back in Hong Kong.
