Yale Showcase Day 7 Report

In the morning we met with coach Ileen at Columbia University. Coach Ileen who graduated from Columbia has been coaching tennis for over 10 years at different schools, including Seton Hall where HKITA’s own Sher Pui Wing will be going to this September. Coach Ileen was very kind and honest in assessing our players and answering questions from players and parents alike. Getting in to Columbia is very, very tough because the school requires high level of grades. Coach Ileen told us that if you have C or D in your transcript, it’s going to be extremely tough to pass the admission.
Coach Ileen also suggested our girls to apply to Barnard College which is a sister school of Columbia. If you get accepted to Barnard, you can also play tennis for Columbia. Basically students from Barnard can take classes at Columbia and vice versa, it’s just Barnard is all girls school only. Barnard has its own admission office too but the competition is not as strong as Columbia because there are no boys applying.
In the afternoon I took the kids to see NYC. As always it is an exciting city. We did some sightseeing and also a bit of shopping on Fifth Avenue. The kids really enjoyed their afternoon at the Big Apple. Accidentally when we walked around we saw David Hasselhoff who is one of the judges of America Got Talent show walking around the street and being followed by many fans!
Today we will be heading to New York University to meet coach Choy who is the head coach of both men’s and women’s team. Coach Choy is very keen in recruiting our players so he set up an appointment with an admission officer who can assess our kids’ grades. This is the first time we get to meet with an admission officer and I am sure this will be very helpful when our kids applying to NYU in the future. As we all know NYU is one of the highly respected schools with a long tradition.
